Drugs are the main tools to prevent and treat diseases and the important factors of iatrogenic diseases. Pharmacology is the science that deals with the interaction and rules of drugs and the body. Its main task is to guide rational drug use, improve drug efficacy and reduce adverse reactions. It can provide basis for developing new drugs and discovering new applications drugs. It also provides techniques and methods for exploring and elucidating life processes.

Pharmacology is the secondary discipline of pharmacy and the basic discipline of medicine, so it is the bridge discipline between pharmacy and medicine. Pharmacology is the basis of medicine and clinical therapeutics, so it is the bridge between basic medicine and clinical medicine. The theory of pharmacology is the basis of drug preventing and treating diseases, so pharmacology is a required course for students majoring in medicine. Pharmacology can elucidate the action, structure-effect relationship and clinical applications of drugs, so pharmacology is required course for students majoring in pharmacy. It also the main course of forensic medicine, nursing, public health, radiology, inspection and other disciplines.
